Fitzpatrick Fuels wood pellets are a popular choice for the use of horse bedding. They are made from 100% natural wood, and sourced from sustainably managed forests.

These pellets are made from pine and birch wood, so have a naturally pleasant fragrance. The wood pellets are formed under an intense heat, that strip away any bacteria and impurities, and do not contain any additives or chemicals.

Wood pellets have the ability to absorb up to three times their own weight in liquid, making them significantly more absorbent that other types of horse bedding.

The price of these wood pellets includes 20% VAT, if you are using these wood pellets for heating purposes, please visit our wood pellets page for 5% VAT prices.

Description

These bulk bags of bedding wood pellets contain 1,150 kg of loose wood pellets, making them convenient for people who don't want to dispose of lots of plastic bags that go to waste in pre-pack pellets.

HOW TO USE:

The amount of pellets required will depend on the size of the stable you have.

To start, shovel a layer of wood pellets across the bedding floor and evenly poor water over the pellet bed to activate the wood pellets.

From here, the pellets will start to absorb the water and swell into a soft and sawdust like form. Once you have added water to the wood pellets, leave them to absorb the water for about 20 - 30 minutes. You will notice the pellets significantly expand in size.

Once the pellets have absorbed the water, the texture of them will now be soft and fluffy. Once the texture of the pellets has changed, use a fork to break up the pellets, and evening spread them out to create a comfortable bed for your horse. From here, the pellet bedding is ready to use!

UPKEEP/MUCKING OUT:

When mucking out, remove solids and saturated patches daily while leaving the rest of the pellets in the stable. The wet patches of bedding will separate from the dry areas of the bed.

To replenish the areas you have taken from the bedding, add more pellets as required, adding water to them as you did when making the initial bed. Allow them time to soak up the water, and then spread them throughout the stable.

If you have a particularly wet horse, you could add some dry pellets into the stable. These will be activated naturally by your horse.
