Alder is one of our newer varieties of firewood. It is widely used in countries like Lithuania as a preferred firewood source, it smells lovely when burning, offers a quick heat output and gives off a nice bright & lively flame.

Alder can be used on open fires, wood burners, multi-fuel stoves and pizza ovens.

Alder firewood is similar to birch firewood, however, in our opinion, alder gives off a higher heat output.

Alder firewood for sale

Fitzpatrick Fuels ignored previous negative commentary on the value of alder as firewood and decided to find out for ourselves. We’re glad that we did!

As a result, we have added it to our range of premium kiln-dried logs, and is available to buy in volumes to suit

everybody in nets, bulk bags, and jumbo crates.

Is alder a good wood to burn?

Alder is both softer and lighter than most other hardwoods like ash, oak, or birch.

It burns hot, and more quickly too, but is easy to light and is popular because of its lively orange tint and authentic aroma. Its swift heat output removes the chill from a room, and we recommend it to people who use their appliance for a couple of hours in an evening or those that struggle to get their fire started.

Is kiln-dried wood worth it?

Yes!

All the firewood we sell is air dried before being split and put into a kiln.

It stays in there for an average of seven days, drawing out excess water to leave a moisture content of less than 20 percent.

While it might be slightly more expensive than air-dried wood, it is cleaner, emits more heat, and last longer too.
