Description
Kiln dried Hornbeam is one of the highest performing hardwoods available and is often described as the perfect balance between Oak and Birch. It has the heat endurance and burn time of Oak, but lights more easily and reaches temperature faster, making it a favourite for daily burning throughout the winter.
Hornbeam produces a strong, consistent heat with very little ash and minimal smoke. Once lit, it holds heat for a long time and doesn’t require constant refuelling, so you can sit back and enjoy the warmth instead of tending the fire. For customers who use their stove as a primary heat source or burn for longer periods, Hornbeam offers exceptional efficiency and value.
All Hornbeam is kiln dried to a moisture content below 20% (often below 15%), ensuring a clean, hot and reliable burn. The logs are cut to approximately 25cm, making them suitable for the vast majority of log burners, multifuel stoves and open fires. As a dense hardwood, Hornbeam burns slowly and produces very little ash, helping maintain good airflow within the stove and keeping the glass cleaner for longer.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Will this definitely be kiln dried?
Yes — every load of firewood we sell is genuinely kiln dried.
We are Woodsure Approved and all of our wood is Ready to Burn certified. This certification means that moisture content, wood species, and quality are independently checked and approved.
You are receiving premium, fully compliant firewood — not seasoned logs labelled as kiln dried.
Am I getting my money’s worth?
Yes — Hornbeam offers exceptional value because it is one of the densest hardwoods available. Dense wood contains more energy, which means each log burns for longer and produces more heat. With a 1.5m³ crate, the logs are tightly stacked, not loose filled, giving you approximately 3 builders bags worth of firewood. You pay for usable wood, not empty space — and because Hornbeam burns slowly, you use fewer logs overall.
Will I need loads of kindling to get it going?
No. One of the biggest advantages of Hornbeam is that it lights more easily than Oak. You only need a normal amount of kindling to get the fire started. Once the stove is up to temperature, Hornbeam takes over and maintains a long, steady burn without much intervention.
Can your vehicle get to my property?
We use 3.5 tonne delivery vehicles fitted with crane-off unloading, so we are much more flexible than national pallet networks. If a standard bin wagon can get onto your street, we can get to your property too. If your access is tight or unusual, feel free to give us a call before ordering and we’ll talk through it with you.
Can I tell you where I want it placing?
Absolutely. Just let us know before delivery where you want the crate placing — driveway, garage, next to your log store, etc. Our crane-off system allows us to position it exactly where it’s convenient for you, meaning no kerbside drop-offs and no heavy lifting on your end, access permitting.
